Our Members’ Project Ranks Top 6 at the Finovate Hackathon
On August 16, three of our members—Olivia Zhang, Oliver Fan, and Chloe Li—along with Jefferson Lee, participated in the Finovate Hackathon. Their project, Remedi, ranked among the top 6 out of 28 competing teams. Congratulations to the team on this wonderful achievement!

Remedi, with the tagline “Pay the pill, skip the bill,” aims to address a serious problem: patients who delay or skip prescription refills because of financial hardship. The proposed system identifies patients who may be at risk of missing a refill and helps trigger insurance support for medication costs—creating a win-win situation in which patients can stay healthier while insurers may avoid more expensive hospital care later.

During the hackathon, the team built a machine learning system using XGBoost to predict financial distress. The judges recognized them as “the only team that went beyond developing the concept and built a working machine learning model.” Their model achieved a ROC-AUC of 0.80, demonstrating the strong technical foundation behind the idea.

We are excited to see our members applying their interests in AI and finance to tackle real-world challenges. Congratulations again to Olivia, Oliver, Chloe, and Jefferson!
