Plano AsiaFest Fundraising

Updated: May 12

How can a miscellaneous array of donated items support vulnerable children in Kenya?

On May 2, 2026, the Hoperation Fund participated in the Plano Asia Fest event to raise money for Kenya Relief (a nonprofit based in Kenya that provides assistance to Kenyan orphans). At our booth, volunteers sold leaf vein bookmarks, Chinese hand fans, and a variety of cultural accessories. In addition to selling cultural items, our organization also hosted a book sale, featuring a diverse selection of books, ranging from educational to children's books, donated by our members. Additionally, the Hoperation Fund distributed many flyers that explained the theme of our booth, Kenya Relief, and our Fund’s mission statement. Throughout our time volunteering at the booth, we enjoyed the bustling presence of outdoor vendors and the variety of cultural presentations, such as dancing and taekwondo.

After a long yet rewarding day of volunteering at Asia Fest, the Hoperation Fund earned a total of $475, after subtracting the cost of hosting the booth. Since all items were donated, the Hoperation Fund was able to donate every dollar toward supporting Kenya Relief.

From this memorable experience, every Hoperation Fund volunteer stepped out of their comfort zone, whether it was persuading a customer to buy our products or sharing our mission with new people. After the very successful fundraising event, with encouraging feedback from our customers, we are excited for our future initiatives and invite you to join us at our next fundraising event!
